Mental Toolkit: A web app for creating a personal mental health toolkit

Mental was created in 4 days for a “Stackathon” project. Firebase and Firestore are utilized to create a cloud storage database. Redux thunks contribute to setting the error and loading states of this app. Users have the ability to login, logout, edit and delete their accounts. Additionally, one can add, update, and delete items from their toolkit.

The idea started out when I was instructed to create a magazine for my Typography course at School of Visual Arts in 2018.

Mental Health Advocacy is a cause close to my heart. I believe in ending the stigma about discussing mental health.

While I built this app during a 3 day long “stackathon”, I would like to continue to build it into a fully-fleshed out mental health resource.

What is a Toolkit?

Distress tolerance skills refer to a type of intervention in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) where clients learn to manage distress in a healthy way. These skills are helpful for situations where a client might not be able to control a situation, but they need to manage their own response.

Creating a Distress tolerance toolkit is a great way to remind yourself of activities that you enjoy. These activities can provide a distraction or perhaps lower your distress in some way.
